Old St. Timothy’s Church Building in Herndon, cir. 1881

Our next blog article deals with St. Timothy’s Church Building built back in 1881.  It is located on 820 Eldon and Grace Streets in Herndon, VA.

This building is on the Herndon Historical Walking Tour, so I was able to read their information on it.

There is a metal plaque on the door stating it is “no. 21” and was built in 1881.

The building was used by St. Timothy’s Church and is considered to be built in the Waren’s Gothic style.  The original pews were made of white pine.

With the opening of the Dulles Airport, the population of the town of Herndon grew and this building became too small to be useful to the church.

A new St. Timothy’s Church was built and the old building was sold to the Masons in 1969.

Now the building serves as the Herndon Masonic Lodge #264.  The Fraternal Order of Free Accepted Masons is a secret society with symbols, rituals, and ranks going back to the 14th century.

They believe in morality, charity and obedience to the law.

So now comes the part which I tell all about the Mason’s secrets.  Nope, not happening nor do I know any.

However, I believe they do have a secret handshake.
