Refresh and Rejuvenate

Refresh and Rejuvenate

Lately in my garden I’ve been thinking about two words Refresh and Rejuvenate. My red maple tree has a large vertical split down a good portion of the trunk exposing the inner trunk. I’ve been told there is nothing I can do about this. Fortunately, a garden expert said the tree could live for years even with this defect. So, I’m allowing it to grow.

My research shows, vertical splits are caused by a variety of things from being weak from drought, frost, or even a lightning strike.

Last night, we had a huge rain and windstorm which caused a couple of large trees to break next door. I believe both trees now need to be cut down. The branches fell slightly in the roadway and a bit over the property line.

Initially, with my tree, I think the split came about when a branch was removed along with a tree root being damaged by the lawn mower.

This particular tree provides shade over my patio, so I don’t want to see it go. However, I also don’t want it to grow too close to my home.

A Little Tender Loving Care in Refresh and Rejuvenate

I wish I would have noticed this split sooner as there might have been something to be done about it.

However, the tree has sprouted some leaves at the base plus the bark seems to be healing over that damaged center.

I’m giving it lots of water, fertilizer and care. I really hope that disease and insects avoid this tree. Hopefully it will improve a bit, but it is slow going.

After this traumatic injury the maple tree is healing itself, but it will never be as good as new.

Ending Notes on Refresh and Rejuvenate Blog

I began to think about this tree and how trauma changes everyday life.

After this huge injury, the tree decided it wanted to live and began to heal itself. It sprouted those fresh green leaves on the bottom. The bark is slowing closing in on that gaping wound.

Yes, even in Farmhouse Magic Blog’s award-winning garden, there are those “problem cases”.

REFLECTION FOR TODAY – So, in real life when bad things happen, just like this tree, pick yourself up and go on. Refresh and rejuvenate.
