On-Road Emissions Testing

Farmhouse Magic Blog is always looking for easier and faster ways to do things, so information on a quick on-road emissions testing option was intriguing.

Emissions Testing at the Gas Station

Today I was actually at the gas station garage to get a car inspection and an emissions test.

It is time consuming to wait in line to get passing paperwork for these two tests. I was in luck, as there was only one other person ahead of me in line.

However, on my email from the Department of Motor Vehicles, there was a note about a new drive-by emissions testing option.

On-Road Emission Testing Information

Wow, that sounds interesting, so I pulled up the information on my computer about the new RAPIDPASS system.

This is a optional on-road emission inspection program for vehicles in Northern Virginia.

No need to stop or get out of your car, simply drive by one the on-road inspection locations and it keeps track of your license plate/emissions. Then check online for your emissions report and pay the $28 fee. It can take up to 72 hours for the results to appear. The system will not work in rain, snow or high winds.

Photographs online of the unit show it is simply two small green boxes one on each side of the road and a RAPIDPASS sign.

Ending Notes on On-Road Emissions Testing

I noticed that there are, also, some gas stations that are using this speedy technology for emissions inspections. Your car also needs to be newer than 1996 to participate.

Saving time is money in my opinion and this new fast emissions inspection system is here to make our lives easier.

Now if they can only figure out a way to have a on-road car inspection system where you can drive by and not pull into a garage bay.

Bonus Feature Garage Collage Art

While at the gas station, the below photograph of the weather worn sign made we think of collage art.

Each piece of paper looks like it was carefully glued in a certain area to make the “art work”. I can see this piece in a “Roadway to Art” gallery showing, right?

So what do my Reader think? Is this art or just a worn out sign that got wet and began to slip?

Happy Summer Motoring Everyone.
