How to Make Faux White Layer Cakes, Part 1.

The below instructions show how to make a regular sized faux cake and a mini faux cake.  The smaller cake can be used for a children’s tea party exhibit, etc.

First purchase two circular brown craft paper boxes of the same size to represent two layers.  These paper boxes were purchased in Michaels Craft Store.

The smaller circular boxes are recycled cheese containers made of paper.

Stacked together the two larger boxes were too tall for the cake.  They were cut down approximately an inch by taking off the lids, marking them with a pencil, and then cutting the excess with a pair of sharp scissors.  The lids were then replaced to be glued on.

Place a generous amount of white household glue on all surfaces to be glued.  I gently put the lids together and then gave them a slight twist.

With your finger, rub off any extra glue has dripped down on the box sides.

For the larger circular box, be sure to glue it bottom to bottom as it will be easier to hide any seams once it is plastered.

When you have the lids glued and position on both boxes, put a weight on top of each set to hold the glue until it is dry.

Make sure everything is totally dry before moving on to the plaster stage.
