It’s not often you dine at a restaurant with a river flowing through the center of the patio, but that is the case at the Blue Moon Cafe in Shepherdstown, WV.
Outdoor Patio Area
Upon a recommendation, we entered the cafe and asked to be seated in the outdoor patio area.
Yes, there actually is a small river dividing the patio with tables and chairs on both sides.
The patio is made of large stones and has a couple of rustic steps crossing over the river. Large trees shade the area making it a very nice retreat on a hot summery day.
I also noticed the patio area had outdoor lights strung for dining after the sun goes down.
Sara, our server, was very friendly and told us the Blue Moon was initially a gas station. She also said that the river is called Town Run River. This river runs through various backyards, beneath streets and across alleys. It gets its water from more than twenty natural springs and never runs dry.
There are a few stone steps to get to the patio. The patio has planters and fountains adding to the charm of the location.
Menu Selections
The Blue Moon Cafe serves a variety of sandwiches, burgers, and craft brews. I ordered the Blue Moon Burger with iced tea. The burger is a beef patty on a fresh bun with lettuce, tomato, bacon, cheddar cheese and a fried onion ring.
My tall burger was nicely done and came with an abundance of French fires.
The cafe also offers a variety of craft brews.
This menu board shows the types of craft brews available.
Ending Notes on the Blue Moon Cafe
In conclusion, we had a relaxing lunch and would definitely return to the Blue Moon Cafe for another meal.
The eclectic riverside dinning atmosphere is very enjoyable, and it is, also, a rare treat to be so close to nature.
A Big Thank You to Sara, our server, for allowing us to blog and take photographs of the Blue Moon Cafe.
