Going to an Estate Sale

Believe it or not, going to an Estate Sale was the first item on our Saturday to do list. Actually, truth be told, we have never been to an estate sale, so I was curious to see what it is all about.

The estate sale was right down the street from us, so we didn’t have to go far. We passed it up the first time we went by. On our second time around the block, we asked a couple walking on the sidewalk and they pointed it out.

We missed the Estate Sale flag posted in front of the house. As we walked up to the house, there was a board out front listing off the items for sale. It actually was a three-level single family house full of items for sale. The first floor had jewelry, expensive bags, dishes, paintings, decorations, furniture and collectibles. Everything was marked with a tag.

The second floor had some children’s toys, women’s clothing, linens and bath towels. I saw a couple of ladies going through the items in the closets. From what I understand all the women’s shoes and boots are size 9. However, I was not sure what size the dresses and other items were.

The basement was also full of things for sale. It held lots of things like odds and ends along with even more collectibles and wall art.

There were employees from the estate sale on each level to help with any questions. If you purchased items of a certain dollar value, then you were given a discount. So, this way, people might purchase more things.

Ending Notes on Going to an Estate Sale Blog

Although all the items were in great shape, expensive looking, and very clean we ended up not purchasing anything.

However, most people seemed to walk out of there with something.

I’m not sure but I think I might have been a little too frugal for this estate sale. I am used to secondhand store shopping, so to me the prices were a bit higher than what I usually pay for secondhand things.

In fact, we stopped a few houses down on the same street and noted a lovely wooden bookcase on the front lawn with a free sign taped to it.

Guess who took that free item home with use for our condo decorating project?

Yes, you guess it. The free wooden bookcase on legs has found a new home. It provides lots of extra storage for items, is in perfect shape, is nicely made, and looks great.

NOTE – The bookcase was a little hard to get into the van and up the steps to the top floor, but my significant other managed. After all, it is a great free decorating bonus.

A Big Thank You to the person who gave the bookcase away for free.

NOTE – Photos are not from the estate sale. The photos were used in previous blogs from Farmhouse Magic Blog.com.
