Protein Orange Candy

Trying to invent something new that my family will eat, I came up with Protein Orange Candy.

You only need three ingredients for this crunchy protein candy or snack. If you use a bigger scooper it can also be a cookie.

The Sweet Tooth Fairy Meltables, used in this recipe, are found in craft stores near cake making supplies. Meltable chips have many uses. Melt the chips for drizzling on cupcakes, dripping on cakes, use in candy molds or for coating fresh fruit. My orange Meltages were on a half price sale so I picked up two bags.

I use a large microwave safe measuring cup to melt the orange chips.

Cooking Tip: Sparingly use the pure orange oil. It has a very strong orange flavor, so only a drop or two will flavor your orange candy. If you are not sure you have enough flavoring, taste the mixture before adding more.

  3. Take container out of the microwave and stir the orange Meltables until smooth. The container is hot, so be careful taking it out of the microwave.

  5. Stir in Special K Protein Cereal, do not to crush the cereal. Work quickly to drop the mixture on the prepared tray. Add sprinkles while candy is still hot.
  6. When the tray is full, refrigerate until the mixture is set about 20 minutes. Remove from refrigerator and the protein orange candy should easily pull off the wax paper.

Don’t forget to line your baking tray with wax paper or the candy will be difficult to get off the pan.

Ending Notes on Protein Orange Candy

Please keep in mind, that you can also use chocolate bark or other colored Meltables for this treat.

After reading the cereal box, there is 15 grams of protein per 1 1/2 cups servings of the cereal. It is unlikely that you will eat the whole tray of treats. However, it is nice to know that you get some soy protein isolate and whole wheat grain with each serving of this crunchy candy.
