Bluemont Farm

Bluemont

Traveling, looking for a little adventure, we stopped in Bluemont, Virginia.

Bluemont is a quaint town in Loudon County with a long history. It was established in 1731 and was originally called Snicker’s Gap. It was known as a lively farm trading post. The town’s name then changed to Bluemont on July 4th, 1900.

Bluemont Winery

The Bluemont Vineyard was right around the bend, so we decided to stop in for a visit.

I was totally impressed with the variety of things to do for both children and adults at the Bluemont Vineyard compound.

There is not only a winery but also a farm produce store, a brewery, a cidery, a large play area for children and cottages for overnights stays.

The parking lot was full of cars and families, so we headed up to the Farm Country Store.

The below photograph shows a large black and white cow sculpture in front of the Farm Country Store. This is a great place for families to pose for photographs.

Apple Picking Time at Bluemont

Kate, one of the friendly people there, took the extra time to answer my questions and to give me a brochure.

She explained that today is apple picking time. A tractor ride takes families to the apple orchards to pick apples. Apparently, if I remember correctly, the weekend fee for this is $12 dollars per child and $14 dollars for each adult. Then a fee is charged for the amount of apples the family picks.

There are both large and small bags of Kettle Corn for sale in the Farm Store.

The 12-acre play area near the farm store has quite a few activities for children to participate in. For instance, there is a huge slide, a pen of happy goats, etc.

Fresh Peaches

At the Farm Country Store there is a variety of fresh produce to select from plus many types of jams and jellies. I even noticed a large jar of delicious-looking spiced pears.

There is a vintage truck in the Farm Country Store set up as an unusual display.

Unfortunately, I never made it over to the winey as I ran out of time. I, also, noted in the brochure some of the things need reservations.

Ending Notes

I didn’t spend much time seeing all the different things the place has to offer, so I would definitely like to visit the Bluemont Winery compound once again.

It was a lovely country day and I enjoyed the beautiful Bluemont, Virginia area.

The Bluemont Winery Compound also offers special events as a Corn Maze, Holiday Lighting of the Vines, Apple Gala, and Pumpkin Fall Harvest to name a few.

A Special Thank You to Kate, working in the back area of the Farm Country Store, for allowing me to take photographs and to blog about this back-to-farm place.
