Watering Plants in the Winter

This winter the weather has been rather dry around here, so watering plants in the winter is a necessity.

Everything is dry from three weeks of no rain. So, I decided to water, in particular, the new expensive landscaping.

After reading up on the subject, I found that that even brown dormant plants need water to survive and thrive.

Plants, shrubs, trees, and lawns all need water if there has not been rain or snow as they become dehydrated. Dehydrated plants are weak and susceptible to disease and insect damage.

It works best to water your plants on a nice warm day with temperatures in the 40 to 50 degrees.

Do not water plants if the soil is frozen.

I flooded the plants with water but not so much water that they were left with soggy roots.

Ending Notes on Watering Plants in the Winter Blog

We are going to get rain in my area on Wednesday, so this good soaking should hold the plants till then.

The only thing is to be sure to turn off the indoor faucets and drain them once again so they will not freeze with water in them.

Winter is not over yet. We are sure to get a few more icy or snowy days but at least my plants got a good drink of water.

Be sure to keep an eye on your plants for any dry spells in the weather and water them if needed. Don’t let them dry out.
