I remember a previous blog about rescuing baby bunnies when they fell into a cellar window well, but today’s blot is about a Baby Snake Hero.
I received a photograph and a few words from a person who rescues baby snakes from her cellar.
That’s a little too close for comfort for me, but this person realizes if she doesn’t get them out of her cellar, they will eventually die.
Baby Snake Hero in Action
This person often finds baby snakes in her cellar. Sometimes the baby snakes get their heads encrusted with spider webs that they cannot get off. She has gone as far as getting tweezers and carefully removed the spider webs off the heads of the small baby snakes.
However, she noted that as soon as a baby snake warms up in her hands, it becomes very active.
She likes to release them near her house which has a large, wooded lot.
What Kind of Snake is this? – Northern Ringneck Snake?
After doing some online research, I believe this is a Northern Ringneck Snake. They have a narrow yellow or orange ring around their necks. Juveniles are often solid black with a ringed neck.
Adult snakes grow about 10-15 inches long .
The Northern Ringneck Snake is found in wooded areas, wetland edges, or even in moist basements.
Fortunately, the snake is non-venomous, non-aggressive, but you should give it space if you see one.
