While driving in traffic today, I noted a handwritten sign on a car’s rear window stating to “Eat Our Bubbles!!!”. OK, I shouldn’t forget the three exclamation points, should I? I can pretty much guess that one of the occupants in the vehicle in front of me is a swimmer and perhaps on a summer swim team, right?
Eat our Bubbles might be a clever way to put the swim competition down. However, if another swimmer sees that you are making lots of bubbles in your swimming stroke, it means that you are wasting energy. A swimmer’s stroke should be smooth and efficient. Slapping the water with your hands, legs and feet is not an effective use of a swimmer’s energy.

Actually, Eating Bubbles?
Now actually eating bubbles. I guess every child who has played with a plastic bottle of soap bubbles has tasted a bubble or two.
After doing some online research I found that:
One, if you accidently eat or swallow lots of soap bubbles it can irritate your stomach, cause nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
Two, if you continuously eat soap bubbles, you might have what is known as pica. Pica is a compulsion to eat non-food items.
Bubbles in Common Culture
The word bubbles is sometimes used in conversation to indicate the following:
- Bubbles in financial situation. The rental market is in a bubble; prices are excessive. That means the market price of rentals is too high for its true value.
- Bubbles in Social Situations. After a few bingo games, the ladies were in their bubbles, laughing and having fun.
- A Person Unaware of Troubling Situations. He lived in his own bubble and never thought about the crime in the neighborhood.
