After the storm ends, the winter storm clean up begins. The sidewalk, driveway, and patio had to be scraped, sanded and salted. The cars also were also covered in a layer of snow and ice. I am still working on these snow chores but I take my time.
The temperatures remain on the cold side with freezing nights.
Fortunately, I was not on VA Interstate I-95 this week which experienced a huge traffic jam for hours and hours.
Not sure what all happened but I heard on the news it was a combination of roads not being treated, a large amount of snow, and falling trees.
Container for Rock Salt
I like to keep my rock salt in an old popcorn container.
The salt stays dry in the container and doesn’t clump together.
During this storm, the old pine trees in my yard became heavy with wet snow.
A few of large branches broke off. One huge branch had landed half way on our fence. We got out the clippers and handsaw, and cut up the branches to fit into the trash cans.
Fortunately, pine is a soft wood and it didn’t take long to cut the branches into easily handled sections.
Cleaning up Broken Pine Branches, Winter Storm Clean Up
The above photograph shows the snow covered pine trees from the street view.
Trees covered in snow are beautiful but with too much wet snow, the branches can break.
The photograph on the right, shows a few small pine branches in the snow.
Ending Notes on Winter Storm Clean Up Blog
If you plan on traveling be sure to take a warm blanket, extra water, and perhaps a shovel with you. Some energy bars might be helpful also.
Enjoy the snow but please be careful driving, cleaning the sidewalks or walking in it.
Happy Snow Day!
