Fairfax

Vinyl Records

After visiting downtown Fairfax, I noted a store in a hidden nook selling new and used vinyl records. I really wanted to go in and browse a bit but, unfortunately, the store was not yet open for business.

Peeking in the windows, revealed rows of records neatly arranged in the shop.

This brought back good memories of playing records on our white stereo as a teenager. We danced and sang along to some of the tunes. We always thought shaking a tambourine would be fun but never owned one.

What’s a Vinyl Record Worth?

I wondered which was more expensive, vintage or new vinyl records.

In checking online sources, the value of a record depends on a lot of factors such as how rare the recording is, the artist, how much wear the record shows, and if the record cover is in pristine condition.

Some favorite records are played again and again, so they are in worn out shape.

Lately, some people like the quality sounds that a spinning record makes, so there is a comeback of sorts in records and record stores.

Picture Disc Vinyl

While on the subject of vinyl records, I thought I would mention a picture disc vinyl. Curiously, I’ve never seen a picture disc vinyl in a record store but know of one person who picked one up in Japan years ago but has never opened the cellophane package.

A picture disc vinyl is a vinyl record that has a image directly printed on the playing surface.

This is definitely a collectors item but the value depends on how many were pressed. Some buyers also think that the sound of a picture disc vinyl is not as good as a regular record but not sure if this matters to all collectors.

Ending Comments on Vinyl Records

It was interesting to take a trip to downtown Fairfax. Even though I didn’t get to go into the used and new record shop, I remembered a lot of good tuneage from vinyl records.

Spin those records and keep on dancing!

Only a short walk from the record store is this planter full of white and red begonias.
