I remember volunteering at the Fairfax Public Access Television station, (FPA), as a camera person so it isn’t surprising that today’s blog is on Video Teleprompter App Testing.
TV Studio Teleprompter
I remember FPA’s well-equipped television studio and the teleprompter which is a large piece of production equipment. It needs a crewmember whose only job is to work the teleprompter.
Since we were generally a skeleton crew and had “ad lib” lines, we rarely used the studio teleprompter.
Teleprompter Use
For instance, a speaker, reporter, or actor can easily read his lines off a teleprompter.
This makes the teleprompter useful many times in news production, public speaking, video blogging or filming.
A teleprompter helps reduce the anxiety of having to remember lines since they are printed on a screen.
Prompt Smart Pro Teleprompter App
Today, we are now testing a special App for use with an iPad called a Prompt Smart Pro Teleprompter App. So, basically, it does all the same things a studio teleprompter does.
For testing purposes, two different people read Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address speech.
We attached the iPad to a video production tripod to hold it securely. In conclusion, below are our test results and findings.
Video Teleprompter App Testing Results
The main thing we liked about this App, is the smooth flow of the speech. It smartly shows the line you need to say in a light blue background color as it automatically scrolls down.
It also stops and starts according to your speech patterns by using a patented speech recognition method. You can also program it to emphasize different words in different colors.
We each took turns reading Lincoln’s famous speech with the iPad a short distance away.

We enjoyed using this amazing App for our reenactment of the famous speech. It was also most helpful since neither one of us, knew the Lincoln’s speech by heart.
It is definitely a neat App to have if you are into video filming.
