Unusual Blown Glass Bowl

Large Red Blown Glass Fruit Bowl Large Red Blown Glass Fruit Bowl

The above photograph shows a red blown glass bowl with the sun light pouring through the window picking up the dark ruby red color.  I’ve collected some early glassware with this coloring.  Some places call this color “Pigeon Blood”.

This large bowl could serve as a fruit bowl.  The bowl covers the top of my stool.

This bowl was a gift from a special person.  I believe this bowl was found in an antique shop in California although I don’t know any more history about it.

It would make a perfect piece of art on a modern kitchen counter top.  However, I generally pull it out around the holidays and fill it with pine cones or bulbs.  I have also floated flowers and candles in it.  It makes a perfect centerpiece.

Small Metal Dish

This second piece of art work is an unusual handmade metal dish.

Apparently the design of the man pushing the wheelbarrow was made by hammering the back of the dish.  The edges of the circular dish are turned up slightly and it is almost a fourth-inch thick and is 4 1/2 inches in diameter.

I’m not sure of the type of metal although it is extremely heavy.  It feels more like lead.  Perhaps it has a lead core?  There might be a some copper in the mixture as this metal is a good conductor of heat.  When I wash it in hot water, the metal dish stays warm.

The artist has not signed this piece nor is it dated.  Also, using my Dad’s old trick, I ran a magnet over the metal and it did not stick to the magnet.

It was actually picked up from a California dump site probably half a century ago.

If any of my Readers know anything about either of the art work photographed on this page, please send me a reply below.

  1. Trail Diva,
The thing about art is that each piece is subjective where our personal feelings, tastes and opinions play into the meaning. Is it erotic art or just a guy with a wheelbarrow taking care of his yard? What ever you think it is, this art piece was made to withstand the test of time. Thanks for your comment.

  2. What is in the wheelbarrow? I think it is something naughty. Do you remember how someone got hit in the head with this item and had to go to the ER?
