Ok, so this photograph is the first mum, (Chrysanthemum), of the season at my home. It is a lovely rust color, and I picked it up at the local grocery store for about $5. In fact, I usually buy two or three mums which last until December. I love their bright flowers. Usually, you can find them in yellow, purple, white, tan, and brownish-rust colors. Every year, I often put one mum out front near my entry door.
Right now, the red geraniums, rosemary herb, and other plants looks attractive in their crocks. I actually purchased a roller rack for the rosemary herb. It is in a large terra cotta crock and is quite heavy to move about. However, the roller base makes it so much easier to clean and sweep around that area.
I, also, know fall is in the air, as I had my first pumpkin spice latte yesterday with a gal pal. We sat in the outdoor seating since the weather was delightful. It was very sweet like drinking a pumpkin pie.
Cleaning Up the Patio
So, what has Farmhouse Magic Blog been up to lately beside purchasing that first mum and pumpkin spiced latte? For one thing, I cleaned up the patio. It was a total mess.
When the squirrels get into the planters, they toss a bunch of dirt on the patio pavers making things look messy. I think they like to suck on the terra cotta planters to get some water out of them.
So how did the patio clean up go? First, we pulled out all the weeds in the pavers. The whole patio was then swept with a broom. No, we don’t have a leaf blower as I don’t like to hear all the noise. I also cut back all the spent blooms on the geraniums and the withered leaves. Then, I got the hose out and washed things down as I watered the dry plants. I fertilized a few potted plants. Lastly, I sprayed some weed killer here and there. I don’t spray the entire patio, only where I see a weed or two.
Ending Notes on the First Mum Blog
Right now, the patio looks great with the First Mum of the season on it.
I’m glad I was able to get one thing accomplished because I have many more fall chores to do.
Actually, I picked up some paint samples to try to get a good match on the color of my front door. But, right now, I’m not sure where I put them. Oh boy, I need to go back and see if they are in my purse, shopping bag, car seat, etc.
Until then, have a wonderful cooler day and enjoy the first mums of the season.
