So, let’s talk about the Shoe Nook, a home improvement project. I decided to remove a cheap wire shelf and put in a wooden shoe nook. Frankly, it could also pass as a bookcase. The wire shelf did not hold enough shoes plus it was not very sturdy.
Building the Shoe Nook
Of course, I had help on this project as I am not a carpenter. Since I wanted the shoe hook to be a permanent home feature, some of the baseboard was cut out so it would slide in nicely.
However, even though things were carefully measured, the shoe nook is still slightly off. There is a slight gap on one side. But not to worry, I’m thinking perhaps I can get some trim at some point to hide this. However, we went with it anyway. It was painted the same color as the walls.

My next step is to find some nice baskets or other storage containers to match the shoe nook. Of course, we have things like keys and odds and ends which we need to keep in one place. We also are looking for a row of clothing hooks.
So far, I got distracted on this project so not much is done.
If you look closely, you will see the shoe nook behind the door.
Painting the Front Door
The front door was an absolute mess with scratches and marks, so it was painted as part of the shoe nook undertaking. I’m not allowed to change the color of my door, so I matched the paint as close as possible.
The front exterior door is actually painted farmhouse red. What a coincidence, right? It does need a slight touch up here and there. Today’s temperatures were in the 80’s plus the humidity was low. So, it’s a great day to paint and leave the doors open until the paint dries.
To paint the door, first all the dirt and dust was cleaned off. The area around the security viewing hole and door handles were taped with blue painter’s tape. Since the paint sat for a while it was a bit thick so, it was stirred up again. We painted in the morning, so things would dry by night so we could close and lock the door for the night.
What’s Next?
Everyone is on spring break right now so my “things to do” list is going to wait until I’m inspired again.
When will that be? Hum m m. . . I’m not sure but I’ll be sure to keep my Readers posted on this project.
I’ll make sure you get to see the finished shoe nook project with a few photos.
Have a Great Spring Break!
