Today I photographed my partial collection of Royal Ruby glassware produced by the Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation.
Anchor Hocking used the patented name of Royal Ruby for their deep red glassware.
The company began production of Royal Ruby line in 1938 and it ran until 1967. Then from 1973 to 1977, they produced additional Royal Ruby colored pieces.
Royal Ruby Patented ColorThe two footed cups in this photograph are actually punch bowl cups from a tea set from the 1930’s.
This type of glassware was also known as Depression glassware.
The punch cups are actually much smaller than regular tea cups.
The popular Royal Ruby color was used to produce a variety of Anchor Hocking glassware pieces.
Surprisingly, for a short time, the Anchor Hocking Company made Royal Ruby beer bottles for the Schlitz Brewery.
Royal Ruby Fruit or Salad Bowl Ball Shaped Ivy Vase or Wilson VaseThis photograph shows a ball shaped ivy vase. It was also known a Wilson vase.
Royal Ruby pieces were usually unmarked but they were sold with a small tag on them stating they were the Royal Ruby color.
Vintage Royal Ruby glassware looks nice on the table around the holidays.
It mixes easily with other clear or green glass pieces.
I “over enjoyed” my Royal Ruby glass pitcher one year. I filled it with drink for a party. The handle developed a stress fracture from use. So a helpful hint, it you want to use your pieces, be sure to support the weight of the fluid in it by holding one hand under it.
Anchor Hocking Glassware in the rich Royal Ruby color is always a show stopper and I love the pieces I own.
For Your Information
I was a little curious about Schlitz beer being sold in Royal Ruby Anchor bottles so I researched it a bit more.
In 1949 the Joseph Schlitz Brewery wanted to celebrate their 100 years in business. To do something special, the brewery ordered Royal Ruby beer bottles for their Schlitz beer. They used the Royal Ruby bottles again in 1950 and finally in 1963.
However, beer drinkers did not care for the Royal Ruby bottles.
At that time fruit juice, wine, ketchup, chili sauce, and aspirin were bottled in red glass.
The bottom of the special Schlitz beer bottles had the Royal Ruby script imprinted on them. However, this was the only piece of Royal Ruby glassware that was ever marked.
