Once again, we are visiting the ReStore Shop in the Herndon/Reston area to see what’s new.
Chinese Porcelain Fishbowl Design Planters
The three large Chinese Porcelain Fishbowl Design Planters in the store apparently just came in.
The large porcelain planters are painted with different colors and scenes. Two of the three large planters rest on ornate black lacquered wooden stands, (see below photograph).
From my internet research, the planter on the left is a reproduced Chinese famille-rose medallion porcelain fishbowl planter.
My understanding of the famille rose meaning is something painted in soft colors of blue, green, topaz, and in predominately pink tones.
The planter is decorated with with a scene of courtesans and what appears to be an important male and flowers, trees, plums and butterflies.
Inside the planter, you will notice painted goldfish or carp swimming about with bits of seaweed (?). In China, I read images of goldfish or carp represent a long life and wealth.
The planters got their name since the original use of fishbowls was to house goldfish or carp.
These planters will work both in casual and formal settings.
I spent a lot of time online reading about Chinese porcelains both fake and real pieces. Fascinating topic but be sure to, also, check out YouTube videos on the subject.
The inside of this planter has a carp or goldfish design with green seaweed.
New Rag Rug
This rag rug is in the original packing and measures 2′ 6″ x 8 feet. This size would probably work nicely in a hallway. It is very colorful, made in India and would sell new for $70 online.
It is offered today in the ReStore shop for a discounted price of $50.
There are a lot of colors in this rag rug so it will go nicely with a lot of decorating schemes.
Christmas Holiday Decorations
The ReStore shop has a whole selection of holiday trees, wreaths, and decorations for sale at great savings.
It’s not too early to think about buying a green wreath or holiday tree. The below photograph shows a large collection of holiday wreaths in the ReStore shop. Some wreaths are festively decked out with red ribbons.
The photograph on the left, is the Holiday Section of the store.
This area contains a large selection of trees and trimmings.
Vintage Drop Leaf Table
Eric showed me this real beauty of table. Photographed below is a vintage-looking drop leaf table. What is interesting about this table is how it works. There is vintage looking hardware under the table. When you need extra table space, you pull and reposition the legs to make the leaves open and stand up.
This table would be perfect for those with limited space who will be entertaining for the Thanksgiving holidays.
Artistic Benjamin Le, AXI Table
This next item is a little different. I took a photograph of the table but I am not posting it at this time since I am not sure if it is a table or art. (?) Please let me explain.
Benjamin Le made furniture into art. His work included using aniline dye and inlaid veneer. Once the wood pieces were stained, they were tightly glued back together and a clear lacquered finished was then applied over the design.
His furniture often included brightly colored swirl patterns, curves and circles. His unique style would bring out the beauty in woods. Le owned the AXI Contemporary Furniture company which made a line of tables, beds, etc. The factory was located out of Fullerton, CA.
When starting out, Le signed and numbered the first 100 furniture pieces and after that he signed each piece.
It looks like Le was the CEO and Furniture Designer for AXI Contemporary Furniture from 1994 until 2009. He was also the company owner of the De Moma Manufacturing until 2009. Currently, Benjamin Le works at BLS which is a software development company that makes systems for satellites, robotic simulators and for solving complex engineering issues.
All information on Benjamin Le was taken from “AXI Contemporary Furniture-Specialty Finishes,” written by Helen Kuhl and SignalHire.
If you’re a little curious about this artistic AXI Table and chair set, please stop and check it out at the ReStore in the Herndon/Reston area. The “set” price is advertised at $1,200. After seeing it, it is both art and function in one colorful table.
Hearth & Home Fireplace Insert
The below fireplace insert is not something you see everyday in the ReStore. It is apparently from Hearth & Home and was never used.
There are logs behind the front opening and it needs venting.
The opening is surrounded by a brick or slate façade.
This would be a nice item to have installed in your home for the winter months ahead.
All the items from today’s bog are available at the ReStore shop in the Reston/Herndon area.
A Big Thank You to Eric for giving me updates on some of the merchandise for sale at the ReStore shop. Also, Thanks to Paul for allowing me to take photographs and to blog about the ReStore shop in the Reston/Herndon area.
