Rare Vintage Munising Hand Painted Wooden Nut Bowl with a Pine Cone Design

This rare Munising wooden nut bowl has a hand painted picture of two pine cones.

It is in great vintage condition, however, it was missing the vintage nut cracker and picks.

If you look closely at the center of the bowl, the two larger circles are for holding the ends of the nut cracker.  The smaller holes are for holding six nut picks.

These popular wooden bowls were produced by the Munising company in the late 1940’s.

Their wooden bowls were decorated with beautiful designs of ivy, fruit, mallards, roosters, flowers, and, of course, pine cones.

At one time the company employed up to 250-300 people.

The Munising Woodenware Company was located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and was in business from 1911 to 1955.

On the bottom of this bowl, you will notice the left leaning script which was introduced in the 1930 or early 1940’s.

In the early 1900’s wooden products were in big demand.  There were no plastics at that time.

Munising produced quality wooden rolling pins, butter bowls, paddles, potato mashers, dough bowls, clothes pins, nut bowls, forks, and lazy susans.

The Munising Woodenware Company closed its doors in 1955 mainly due to the introduction of plastics products and inexpensive wooden imports.

I picked up this antique nut bowl in a junk store for only $2.00 and donated it to a historic farmhouse.

And guess what, that farmhouse actually had an antique nutcracker and nut picks which fit nicely in to the slots on the bottom of this bowl.  What were the odds for that?  Farmhouse magic surely in the air.  To see the bowl with the nutcracker filled with plastic nuts, you need to take a free holiday tour of the farmhouse.
