A portable solar panel was in yesterday’s holiday presents. Thanks Santa!
I confess, I am not an expert on the subject, so please do your own research if you are thinking of buying one.
What’s a Solar Panel?
A solar panel allows you to capture and convert solar energy to efficiently keep costs down.
Portable solar panels are used on roofs of vehicles, vans, campers, or tents. They are great for generating electricity for road trips, sailing, camping excursions, or other similar type situations.
Solar energy is a free source of power. Some solar panels fold up to about the size of a briefcase.
Using a Solar Panel
- If you are in a location with no power source or if the power goes off, you can generate your own source of power.
- Durability – Look for sturdy, weather/water-resistant cases. Solar Panels should be easy to transport and set-up.
- Convenience – Solar panels should be easy to fold and light weight. Some units have a handle for easy transportation or hanging. If you are limited in space, be sure to check out the unit’s dimensions.
- Compatibility – This is an important one, the solar panel needs to be compatible to your device. Solar panels might need certain cables or adapters to power your smart phone or other small to medium electronics. Some units, also, need to be angled to catch the sun’s rays.
- Read all information/warnings, because some portable solar units might have too many amps to power certain devices.
Ending Comments
Yesterday, on a not too sunny day, we tried to capture a few rays to charge our portable solar panel. We, also, possibly stepped on the edge a bit since it was right in front of the patio door. It was outside for a couple of hours but, from my understanding of things, did not fully charge.
Basically, I’ll let my Readers how the new Portable Solar Panel works out for our uses so keep reading FMB for an update.
