Polka Dots Forever

I was out shopping for garden supplies when I noticed this orange and white polka dot patterned car in the parking lot.

I stopped to take it all in.  I didn’t see any advertising on the car.

Wouldn’t it be great to have a car like this as you would never lose it in a crowded sports arena or mall parking lot?

Remember the light weight cotton fabric called dotted Swiss which had dots of flocking all over it?

The flocking in the material was made by applying tiny fibers with glue.

You could also buy ribbon which was decorated in polka dots.

History High Points of Polka Dots

Back in Medieval Europe a polka dot pattern would more likely remind people of small pox or other diseases rather that a fun fashion statement.

Then Czech peasants performed a popular dance called the polka.  It was in vogue in the 1830 and 1840’s, and polka related goods soon followed.

Miss America of 1926 wore a swimsuit printed with large dots.

There was also a 1962 comic book “bad guy” who went by the name of the Polka-Dot-Man.  The dots of his outfit became handy weapons and he tossed the dots like Ninja stars.

Don’t forget about Yayoi Nagano an abstract expressionist artist from Japan who works with polka dots.  She is in her 90’s but still produces paintings, sculptures, environments, and films.  Her bright polka dot art is a favorite in the art world.

I confess, I love polka dots, too.

Thank you for reading our weblog. I’m not an expert on the topic of skinks. I’m just a blogger with a phone camera, who took a photograph of one in my yard. If you want more on this topic, you’ll have to look elsewhere on the web. Enjoy your day.
