Off to the Fair

I will soon be Off to the Fair to check out the Big Truck Night and then tomorrow the Grand Opening. The local fairs are always lots of good old family fun with adorable farm animals, fair food, games and carnival rides.

I remember one of the first fairs I attended was in the parking lot of a local grocery store. They had several booths where you could toss quarters and win a cheap piece of glassware. I remember winning two amber stemmed glasses. It wasn’t as easy to do as you think because the quarters would slide out when tossed. I probably went through a lot of quarters to win those glasses.

They also had water games where you aimed a stream of water into a clown’s mouth. One person would win but it was never a game of skill because the water seemed predetermined.

Another game I remember playing was to knock down a set of milk bottles. However, the bottles were coated with something, perhaps lead, and were extremely heavy. It was almost impossible to knock them over with the provided ball.

Everyone loves the fun rides. One carnival ride I went on was some type of winter ski ride. The ride went round and round quickly several times, then was over. There wasn’t any actual snow and I’m not even sure why they named the ride that. Perhaps it was like skiing downhill, but not sure on that one.

Big Truck Night

So, what will I see today on Big Truck Night when I’m off to the Fair? Usually, they will have a local firetruck or two, ambulances, big trucks for hauling things, a tractor, perhaps a dump truck and other big trucks. Kids love to explore and climb aboard fire trucks and pretend to be a fireman.

Mission BBQ

This is only a photograph of a big truck in my media library, but not a truck I’ll see at the fair tonight.

Ending Notes on Off to the Fair

It always a big weekend to see the fair and carnival. I hope to blog more about it on another blog. I love the bells, whistles, sounds and lights of the fair.

For Now I’m Off to the Fair.

Media Library photographs for this blog story were not taken at the Fair.
