Once again, it was, “Lights, Cameras, Action,” for the 2023 NOVA Film Showing.
We attended the event on 4-13-2023 at the Waddell Theater. This is on the first floor of the Waddell Building located at the NOVA Loudoun Campus. Since it was after 4 p.m., parking was free and there were a lot of open spots.
Although I only watched four films before I had to leave, I found the films interesting, full of imagination, and delightful.
I always enjoy seeing what students come up with.
Comments on the NOVA Film Showing
I spoke with a few students outside the theater before the doors opened. Everyone was excited to finally see their finished films on the big screen. I spoke with Jason, an engineering student, who was full of energy.
To be honest, I’m not sure what the parameters were for the filming, submission of the films, or judging the winner.
“Gold for Goblins” was the first film we reviewed. The scenery looked like it was mostly filmed on campus and in the woods. In the quest for proof of green goblins, the protagonist goes to great lengths to capture a goblin. But as it turned outs, in the end relationships and friendships were worth more than gold.
Secondly, we viewed “Kasting Kouch” which was a zany view of the world of television and a producing a cooking show.
Then we viewed “I Can’t Let Her Go” a dramatic young romance which goes wrong in a big way. But in an interesting ending, the tables are turned.
Lastly, we reviewed “Sad Animals“. Although there was a lot going on in this film, the director at the end said she was inspired by an informal exotic animals rescue organization.
Ending Film Comments
It was nice there was a question and answer session for the director after each movie.
The students set up refreshments at intermission, so we stopped for some popcorn and gave them a donation.
Films represent a different way of looking at the world and the people in it. All the films were great but they all showed a different view of movie making.
