Using A Motorized Pan Head for a Video Production

This afternoon I was on a site shoot using a motorized pan head for a video production.

The purpose of using a motorized pan head is it gives smoother panning action when compared to a human hand.  It allows for precision movements in video.

This motorized pan head works with AA batteries.

On these two photographs the pan head is the silver box on top of the tripod.

To operate the pan head control push and hold the arrow button in the direction you want the camera to move in.

It took a little practice to get a smooth video of the action.

In this case, I was trying to follow the actor walking towards me on a path.

It’s not as easy as it sounds.

The below three photographs shows a little of the scenery in the area we were filming in.

Quite lovely but a little wet and buggy.

The weather was a little overcast but apparently the gray day fit into the story line.

So we ended a quick afternoon of filming.

I’m giving the motorized pan head a good rating since it produces smooth panning action in video.

It’s, also, easy enough to learn to use and immediately begin filming.
