There are so many goodies at Merrifield Garden Center this weekend, I decided to do a second More Fall Garden News Blog.
Outside of their garden center, they frequently fill the vintage truck’s bed full of plants and merchandise. A variety of colorful plants and shrubs are then placed near the truck’s sides. Today’s photograph, also, shows a large bin of orange pumpkins behind the truck.
We all know how much FMB loves vintage trucks, plants, and also pumpkins. Absolutely, three of my favorite things.
Near the rear of the yellow truck is a Diane Witch Hazel shrub. It has the largish reddish brown leaves on it and will bloom during the winter time. It is also tolerant of clay soils and deer.
Wooden Garden Chairs and Mums
The unusual garden chairs, (photograph below), are more like stools with a place to rest your feet. They are surrounded by jewel-toned mums. If you look closely there are several shelves of assorted gourds in the background always great for fall decorating.
There are also rows of green mums which have not bloomed yet.
Faux Pumpkins, Wreaths and Oranges
This garden store always has a superb selection of faux pumpkins, fruits, and flowers. Check out the fab fake flowers and pumpkins below. Even the large pumpkins on the floor, right side, are fakes. Everything looks fresh and real.
I’m not sure what the wreaths are made of, but it looks like something natural.
This stunning fall silk leaf wreath sits behind some faux pumpkins in a basket.
What a great look for fall.
The next thing I noticed are these pomander faux oranges and cloves. They can be used to fill bowls, for wreath decorations or holiday home décor.
Pomander is a French term meaning Pomme d’ambre.
Orange Pomanders first came about during the middle ages and were used to protect against illness, ward off bad smells, or as keepsakes. Of course, during this time, oranges and cloves/spices were very expensive and only the very rich could afford them. Sometimes, the spice studded oranges were incased in gold cages and worn around the wrist or the waist.
However, today we find clove studded oranges to be more of a homespun craft project.
Planting Fall Bulbs in More Fall Garden News
As I walked into the garden center, there is an absolutely huge variety of tulips, daffodils, and other fall bulbs.
It fun to look over the variety of bulbs and decide what to plant for fall.
There is something for everyone in the fall bulb selection. However, be sure to get your fall bulbs in the ground soon.
Ending Notes of More Fall Garden News Blog
Because I love my garden, I really enjoy my shopping trips to the garden center.
So, what is a visit to the garden center without a sneak peek at what’s to come.
So is Christmas in the air yet? It looks like the trend for this year is a lot of red and natural straw colors.
Happy Shopping!!!
All items and plants in today’s blog can be purchased at Merrifield Garden Center.
