Fall Garden News

I absolutely love the fall season, so I thought I would give everyone a Fall Garden News update on my recent trip to Merrifield Garden Center.

There is so much bright color in the garden right now, new fall products, pumpkins, and great fall décor for the home.

Below are some of the new fall products I thought I would focus on.

Cat Grass

I, first, saw Cat Grass seed packages in the Garden Center. Apparently, Cat Grass is easy to grow.

Anyone with a cat knows they like to chew on blades of grass every now and then. Green grass provides some minerals, vitamins, folic acid and it also possibly aids in cat digestion. However, some house cats eat grass because they enjoy the taste and texture.

What is nice about growing your own Cat Grass is you know it is clean and safe. The neighborhood grass or front lawn might be sprayed with poisons or pesticides which could harm your pet.

So, for a pet treat, how about growing some Cat Grass?

Faux Pine Cones

Next, I saw these faux pine cones and thought they look very realistic. However, upon touching them, they are faux. Faux pine cones are a great idea since real pine cones don’t last forever. At some point, real pine cones in wreaths and garlands will look worn out.

However, with these plastic pine cones, they are fresh season after season and look just picked.

Gourmet Food Products

If you want some food gift products, there are several shelves of special jams, pickles, and jellies to choose from.

Some of the products are Peach Jalapeno Jam, Baby Dill Pickles, Honeycrisp Apple Butter, Hot Pickled Okra, Vidalia Onion Relish, Roasted Tomato Salsa plus other culinary treats.

The jams sound good to serve with toast, corn muffins, or scones. For easy entertaining, try spooning gourmet jam over top of a block of cream cheese served with carefully arranged crackers.

For a delightful holiday hostess gift, you could get a basket, put a few jars in and wrap with a red ribbon.

Chrysanthemums, Bright Fall Garden News

Some of these large chrysanthemums are in three gallon containers. Others are planted with tri-colored plants.

The red plant in the middle of the first photograph is a Kodiak Red Diervilla plant. Diervilla is a native flowering plant which is great to use in difficult landscaping projects. It tolerates a variety of soils, shade and full sun. The leaves are a vivid red in the fall.

The bright red, purple, yellow, and pink colors represent autumn at its finest.

Golden Barrel Cacti

This shelf of Golden Barrel Cacti is located in the warm greenhouse. It was a cold wet weekend, so the cacti love the greenhouse’s nice temperature. They look very healthy and are about 4-inches high.

These Golden Barrel Cacti almost look identical in their green plastic crocks.

This large cactus decoration is in the cacti section.

Inside it has some lights showing.

Ending Notes on Fall Garden News Blog

Because of the cold, wet day, there were only few people in the garden center. So, I was able to stroll among the plants and merchandise taking my time with nature.

I’m having a peaceful and relaxing morning.

All the above merchandise and plants are available for purchase at Merrifield Garden Center.

A special thank you to Daniel for allowing me to blog and take photographs at the Merrifield Garden Center.
