This weekend, I assisted our video technical director with a video project.
He was filming a video segment on rental tips and was using a small audio recorder which was tucked into his back pocket.
On his shirt collar, he clipped on the microphone with a mini pop filter.
Our video director loves clip on microphones since they allow for hands free operation. He has used pop filters before and they do a great job of blocking out unwanted noises.
Pop FiltersPop filters or pop shields are noise protection filters for microphones.
They eliminate popping sounds caused by fast moving air.
Mini pop filters cost about $6 for a set of six.
Small Residential PondWe decided to film the segment in front of a small neighborhood pond on a beautiful day.
It looks like a lovely, peaceful area but it was actually a very busy, noisy area.
There were lots of people walking dogs, children playing street hockey, people walking around the pond, and others doing yard work.
After setting up the camera on a tripod and attaching the microphone with the pop filter, we were ready to start.
Summing Up
So how did the filming turn out?
There were actually quite a few issues with the filming.
The first issue it was difficult to concentrate on the film since we had to stop and start the camera when people passed by.
The second issue was that the lapel microphone with the pop filter was incorrectly placed almost under the shirt collar so that the audio wasn’t useable.
Our video technical director is actively searching for a truly peaceful location for another taping.
We will also try out the pop filters again. This time we will double check the placement of the microphone before filming.
Howie.,
Thanks for the comment on our old blog on “Fall Cleaning”. Not sure what you mean by supply? I use whatever laundry detergent is on sale. The bottom line is that I have a clean bedspread. I hope life is treating you well and take care of yourself.
