Herbs in my Garden

Herbs and Blooms

It has been a bit since we did a gardening blog, so today it is herbs and blooms. We had a lot of rain so far this summer so things are looking healthy and green.

Herbs

First, I am going to talk about herbs which are growing in crocks on my patio. Ever since a bunny got in to my previous herb garden, I’ve been planting my herbs in crocks.

If you remember earlier this year we bought herbs, tomatoes and flowers seedings for planting this year.

The below photograph shows tomato, German Thyme, parsley, and purple petunias ready to plant.

Rosemary and Chives

I love to use both chives and thyme in my cooking, so I added these two plants to my crock garden.

The below photograph is actually German Thyme. I use the thyme when baking chicken and vegetables. It give everything a nice flavor and it smells great when baking.

The chives work nicely in potato dishes from mashed to scalloped potatoes, or even potato salad. Chives also taste great in scrambled eggs or egg salad.

Herbs

If you grow herbs in crocks, be sure to keep them watered.

This below rosemary plant is a couple of years old and is now quite large. I don’t really cook much with it but I will use sprigs in drinks, tomato juice or as garnish.

Fresh parsley is another one of my favorite herb plants since I use it so frequently in dishes.

Yesterday this parsley plant looked great, however, I think a squirrel knocked some of the springs off.

Now for the bloom part of the blog herbs and blooms.

The purple petunias with white edging have filled out and look lovely. I just watered these flowing plants.

The torch lilies are also known as red hot poker plants. This year my plants are full of blooms. The torch lilies are a native plant to Africa and they look exotic on my front lawn.
