Fall decorating and firewood go together this time of year. Years ago, I remember walking in the woods with my Dad when he had an old firewood memory from his European childhood.
He stated that the woods in Europe were very clean as everyone gathered firewood to burn in their fireplaces.
Since I live in an urban setting, gathering fireplace logs and twigs in the woods is not an option.
To “gather” firewood for my new fireplace insert, we visit our local Merrifield Garden Center and purchase firewood.
I enjoy looking at their attractive fall displays. It gives me ideas for my present garden and for decorating my home for the holidays.
Vintage Ford Truck Display at Garden Center
Today outside of the garden store, I noticed their vintage lemon-kissed Ford Truck with “Merrifield Garden Center Since 1971” printed on the car’s doors. The old Ford was part of their outdoor fall decorating scheme.
The bed of this vintage Ford truck hold bales of hay and other items. Extra large pumpkins, colorful fall chrysanthemums, and a variety of plants surround the truck.
Cinderella Pumpkins, Corn & Firewood
The below photograph shows a large bin of Cinderella pumpkins. The Cinderella pumpkins are of a good size and would be perfect for carving.
These large pumpkins are, also, great for decorating homes, porches or yards.
There are also bunches of multicolored corn hanging from the ceiling displays. This corn is sometimes known as flint corn or Indian corn. The multicolored kernels can be be white, blue or red.
Bunches of multicolored corn is great for fall decorating.
Wrought Iron Firewood Log Holder
I previously purchased a wrought iron fireplace log holder in a secondhand church resell shop and not at the garden center. It was very reasonably priced at only $25 and had no rust spots on it. It will, also, hold a quite a few large fireplace logs.
I like how sturdy this log holder is made.
It’s not an exact color match with my fireplace insert, but I might be able to darken it a little with spray paint.
Fall Decorating and Firewood Purchase
Today we purchased several logs of dry firewood at the garden center, so now it looks like we are ready to try out our new fireplace insert.
We have already noticed that it is much warmer down in our family room without the old drafty fireplace opening.
First, I need to read the instruction booklet that came with this super heating wood fireplace insert. No, it is just not lighting a match as it has a heat fan.

Fall Decorating and Firewood Logs
We had some left over fire logs, so we stored them in the basement to keep them dry.
As we use up the logs on the log holder, we will add the extra ones from the basement. This winter, we’re keeping things warm and cozy around our house.
Deck the Halls Decorations
It looks like Merrifield Garden Center is beginning to put out their holiday items.
I’ll be back to check it all out.
Ending Comments on Fall Decorating and Firewood Blog
Who would think that on my errands to pick up some firewood that I would see Cinderella pumpkins and a vintage Ford truck?
Could there also be a nearby Cinder Garden Gal waiting to ride to the ball in her vintage Ford truck?
I sure hope so, that would be neat ending to this blog story as long as she is not wearing garden boots.
A Big Thank you to Merrifield Garden Center for allowing me to blog and take photographs of your store.
