Art Gallery Showing

Next Thursday I’m in charge of an art gallery showing a couple new artists. This weekend, I’ve been getting ready for the showing.

I’ve never put together an art gallery showing before, so I looked online for ideas and suggestions.

Informal Table Setting

Since this will be a small informal affair, I’ve gotten out my rattan cake stand to place the cupcakes on. I’m using white paper doilies on the top surface of the cake holder. The tables will be dressed with a couple of banquet-length white tablecloths. I also have a fall-color themed cloth table runner which might work for the food table. I purchased the table runner recently in a resell shop and haven’t used it much.

To keep things interesting, online sources, state to use unusual trays, platters or bowls. Food items should be placed at different eye levels. Glass blocks or bricks used as stands give buffet tables a modern look.

For art gallery showings, in general, I’ve read that black tablecloths work better for food tables since the food doesn’t distract from the art work. However, I don’t think that’s the way to go for this event.

This art work is not for sale yet so I think it is OK to use white tablecloths for this one showing. This gallery showing is just to introduce the upcoming artists and their current work.

The Rattan Cupcake Holder elevates the cupcakes.

It is standard catering practice to have food at eye different levels.

Mainly I’ve read to serve wine, cheese and crackers with perhaps an asparagus quiche. Sounds like good ideas but not going with the quiche at this time.

It’s easy to put together a cheese and cracker tray. I’ve already ordered some special cocktail crackers for the event.

Displaying the Planters

I have several 8 x 11-inch sized paintings to display but no display easels. I am also not able to hang the paintings on a gallery wall.

To solve this issue, I got creative and used plate stands, phone stands, Ipad stands, and computer stands.

I bought a couple of inexpensive computer stands from a dollar store for the larger paintings. When you bend them at a certain angle, they will stand up and hold the larger paintings. It’s not perfect but it is a workable solution for now.

An assortment of “creative” art stands to display the art work.

Non Alcoholic Beverage

I’m also not able to serve wine at this event, so I purchased some bottles of rose sparkling grape juice. It will make a good second choice.

Sparking Rose Grape Juice will look nice in clear glass wine glasses.

I don’t want to use those plastic wine glasses which screw together.

Ending Comments on the Art Gallery Showing Blog

On the day of the event, I have to put together the cheese and cracker tray.

I have a person coming in early to bring the cupcakes and to help me set up, so things are running smoothly. I’ll report back on how the gallery showing goes.

On Thursday, I’ll be “chatting up” the artists’ work along with serving that grape juice and cheese, so wish me luck.

Update on Art Gallery Showing: 5-6-2022

Everything went nicely and the group enjoyed viewing the usual artwork and the refreshments.

Now to frame all the artwork.
