Yesterday, I visited The Delaplaine Arts Center located at 40 South Carroll Street in Frederick, Maryland near the Carroll Creek Park. The repurposed arts center building is originally the site of the Mountain City Mill. Their galleries are open daily and best of all, admission is free.
The photograph below, is from an inside window and shows the garden in winter mode. Apparently, a group of dedicated garden volunteers maintain the outside garden.
The Delaplaine Arts Center definitely has a lot of things going on.
Currently, they have five art galleries with works by local, regional, and national artists. Most of the art work is for sale and the prices are clearly marked. Their large studios host classes and artistic workshops.
Gift Gallery
As you walk in the front doors, they have a Gift Gallery and, also, sell art supplies.
This wall of the Gift Gallery holds art supplies but the shop has other items for sale.
Art Galleries
Leisurely strolling through the galleries looking at the paintings and other art objects is relaxing and inspirational.
The airy, light-filled galleries have convenient benches scattered throughout in case you want to take a few minutes to reflect and enjoy the art.
Their Winter 2022/2023 Magazine, has listings for woodworking, visual journals, linocut printmaking, European egg painting, plus lots of other programs aimed for children.
Throughout the art center, they also have “art carts”. Visitors to the art center can use the materials on the cart to create a variety of artworks. Yesterday, three people were at an art cart making snowflakes out of colorful beads and pipe cleaners.
Of special interest, is the entrance foyer to the Delaplaine Art Center which has flowing jellyfish-looking art work hanging from the high ceiling. A gentle breeze, moves the figures much like a wave at sea.
Ending Notes on the Delaplaine Arts Center
I enjoyed visiting this art center and viewing the art galleries and would recommend it to anyone visiting Frederick.
A Big Thank You to the Gentleman at the Entrance Desk for allowing me to blog and take photographs inside the Delaplaine Arts Center.
