I finished decorating the Christmas Tree for the 2022 season. It always takes awhile to adjust the decorations so it has the look I want.
So, below are the steps I follow to get a lovely looking Christmas tree.
This faux tree came out of the storage box and is still mashed up looking. It has large openings between the layers which need to be fluffed up.
Also, the electrical cords should be adjusted and hidden.
Steps for Decorating the Christmas Tree
- I own a faux tree, so the first thing I do is lift and separate the branches. This can be a little hard on your hands and arms, if needed, wear gloves and long sleeves. You never want your tree to look like it just came out storage with mashed branches or bent ends.
- Check to see if all the lights are working and make any adjustments to the tree stand. Be sure to check that the lights work on all levels. If not, recheck your connections.
- Add garland and floral picks to the tree. Last year, I bought about a dozen red and glittery floral picks on sale. For best results, be sure to adjust them before adding to the tree.
- Start with the largest ornaments and place far back on the branches. This keeps things sturdy. Imperfections are alright and give the tree a bit of character.
- Next add the medium ornaments.
- Lastly, add the smallest ornaments on the branch ends. You want to create depth this way with the Christmas bulbs.
- Add the tree skirt. Tree skirts are important because they hide a plain tree stand. Tree skirts are also great to help catch any falling needles from real trees. When you add a tree skirt, it sets the display area for the attractively wrapped presents. If you do not own a tree skirt, you can make a classic snow design by wrapping bed linen around the base.
- The tree topper comes last. I noted they now sell what are known as a “tree hats” which are made on a spoke design with attached berries, ribbons and small pine cones. This might be your only tree topper, or you can then add a classic star or angel on top of the “tree hat”.
Ending Notes
To keep things interesting, every year I try to add a something new to my Christmas tree. This year I added the red glittery floral picks. They are adjustable but they give my tree a bit more color.
I also don’t use a traditional tree topper but one of a vintage European design. I also have three silver ribbons on the top of my tree.
I’ve had my tree skirt for years but it nicely picks up the new red floral picks. The small dozen red apples are from Germany and also add some color. The icicles are plastic and came from a dollar store.
For next year, perhaps I get some red berry or holly floral picks. So, I’ll see what goes on sale.
Happy Tree Trimming!
