Classic Farm Water Hydrant
The farm uses this type of vintage water hydrant. One water hydrant is located near the dairy shed and the other one near the barn. This design dates back to 1929 when J. C. Woodford bought the company which manufactured the Iowa Yard Hydrant. The company, also, manufactured wall hydrants. J. C. Woodford passed away in 1979. Today the company has over 200 patents to its name.
Why use the Iowa Hydrant?
- It has automatic drainage when it is shut off.
- Water flows immediately even in sub-zero temperatures. To turn the water on, just pull up on the handle.
- All repairs are made at the top of the hydrant
I can see why today’s farmers still use this type of water hydrant. Clever simple design withstanding the test of time.
