To make good use of my time, this early morning I’m doing a blog on calming tea. Presently, it is almost 2 a.m. making it the perfect time to blog. This is when all is calm in Farmhouse Magic Blogdom.
Shopping Trip – Picking up a Box of Calming Tea
So, I was out shopping today at one of my favorite organic supermarkets, when I picked up a box of calming tea. No, that’s not the tea’s real name but I decided to do a test to see if is actually calming to drink.
Let’s take a look at the herbal ingredients on the side of the box. OK, it contains passionflower, chamomile flower, lavender flower, catnip herb, rosemary leaf, peppermint leaf, licorice root and stevia leaf. That is a lot of ingredients for one tea bag. I can safely say I’ve never tried a passionflower in my tea before. This tea is actually advertised as being caffeine free which is another good thing.
The story on the tea box said this company’s blend of chamomile, passionflower, lavender and catnip blend are “nervines” because they support the nervous system. I’m really unclear as how this tea does that.
I remember years ago, my mother planted a passion flower vine on the side of the house. However, we never thought this was something you could make tea out of. My mother was upset with the plant since it grew up over the porch’s overhang and all the blooms were on top of the porch, so we really couldn’t see the lovely purple flowers. I guess there was more sun on top of the porch.
Online there are directions on how to make tea out of the passionflower blooms. Apparently, passionflower tea has known soothing and aromatic qualities.
This calming cup of tea is displayed on my new flowered table napkins.
Making a Cup of Tea
It looks like I have been making my tea incorrectly all this time. The directions on the box say to pour boiling water over the tea bag. Then you cover it and allow it to steep 10-15. Lastly, squeeze the tea bag and enjoy the tea.
I’ve never allow my tea to steep 10-15 minutes so this is where I might be going wrong on my tea service. I’ve also never covered my tea while it steeps.
Ending Notes
So, in conclusion, I’ve only had a few sips of my tea. It is late and I’m also tired but the drinking the tea does seem calming.
