Bunnies and Skinks

Bunnies and Skinks

Oh boy, here we go again, today’s blog is on bunnies and skinks in my urban yard. When I purchased my home, I never thought I would have such a variety of wildlife. This spring I have both wild bunnies and skinks living only yards apart. Go figure, that one.

Bunnies – Bunnies and Skinks

OK, I confess this photograph does not really look like baby bunnies. It is actually a nest of baby bunnies. My companion came across this bunny nest purely by accident. We were getting the patio ready for the springtime weather, and clipping hedges and weeding. When all of a sudden there was a very loud yap from one of the baby bunnies. It totally threw my companion off. It is remarkable how loud a baby bunny can yell.

The mother bunny leaves the nest alone all day long and only come back at night to feed and keep the babies warm.

I don’t want her to abandon the nest, so I’ve not touched the nest. Nor do I want her to move the bunnies closer to my house. The last time the bunnies did that, my boxwood shrub died as they decided to nest right up against the plant’s roots. Those boxwoods are slow growing and are expensive to replace, so I was a little mad at those bunnies.

Blue Tailed Skink

Now for the blue tailed skink in my yard. Mainly they sun themselves on my patio steps. Of course, it couldn’t be near the far end of my property. It is always, right smack dab where I need to go in and out the back door. The blue tail mole skink is apparently endangered. Of course, I am not sure of the exact type of my skinks, but they do have a blue tail. I also have broad headed skinks which are a nice bronze color.

My neighbor and her grandson came by and got to see one of the skinks or “lizards” sunning himself on my steps. Her grandson is fascinated with dinosaurs. OK, a skink is not a dinosaur but close enough.

Ending Notes on Bunnies and Skinks Blog

For all my nature lovers, I’m not sure how much more I can say here. I am going to ignore both the blue tailed skinks and the bunnies, and hope all turns out well.

After all, it’s always call of the wild in my backyard.

Happy Day to all my Readers!
