Black Out Valentine Poems are the way to go for all those “intellectuals” on your Valentine’s Day card list.

Why you ask? Well, first of all “smarties” need a little something to think about and your black out Valentine poem will keep them thinking and guessing. And guess what, the sender or those Black Out Valentine’s remains a bit of a mystery.

What is a Black Out Valentine’s Day Poem?

Black Out Valentine’s Day poems are inexpensive, creative and easy to do. However, it does take a little thought and time on your part. All you need to make a Valentine is a random newspaper or magazine.

How to Make a Black Out Valentine’s Day Poem

First, select any newspaper or magazine, and cut out a heart from some the written printed matter. For this project, the heart is glued on to a festive paper doily used under cakes or other desserts. After your cut your heart out, make sure it fits on the paper doily. Make sure it is not too big or too small. If it is too small, then you will not have enough printed matter to make your poem.

For the second part of the craft project, read through the printed matter. Please note, that your Valentine poem might seem a bit abstract, but is that OK.

When you find a word that describes your relationship or your true feelings, circle that work in black ink. Then go back and read all the words you have circled. If it seems too confusing, circle a few additional words until the poem “speaks” about your Valentine feelings for that person.

Thirdly, go back with a black ink pen and draw a line through any sentences that are not related to your poem.

Lastly, glue your black out poem to the paper doily. Don’t use too much glue or the glue might smear some of the poetry. Also, feel free to add a drawings on the side. My Black Out Poetry poem has a few added hearts which I colored in with a red pencil.
