Today I stopped by ArtSpace in Herndon to see the special exhibit, “Sights and Sounds of Early Herndon.” The display reveals some never seen before photographs of Herndon.
All the photographs are in public domain, so I am able to post them on today’s blog. But the collection came from the Herndon Historical Society.
The photographs are generally grouped according to subject matter such as the railroad or fire department, plus there are several vintage artifacts relating to Herndon.
ArtSpace – CEO & President
I met and spoke with Jo Ormesher, the CEO and President, regarding the photographs of early Herndon. She, also, made many of the frames for the showing.
Jo stated, the photographs show, “The incredible history of the area. Lots of things about the area is magical.” I tend to agree with her on this point.
I, also, think the ArtSpace gallery is also magical on its own right. I love the sparkling ceiling lights which give the space a bit of enchantment.
The vintage photographs of Herndon, Virginia show some of its early history.
ArtSpace is More than an Art Gallery
The ArtSpace is more than an art gallery. They offer art classes such a mixed media painting class and a Trash to Treasure program.
Arts Herndon is a privately governed nonprofit organization with a goal to promote local art. It also offers education opportunities, workshops, photography classes, children’s art classes, poetry readings, etc.
Trash to Treasure Art Program
I was very intrigued with the Trash to Treasure program at ArtSpace and Jo showed me some of the completed art work.
One Trash to Treasure class involves breaking up of recycled colored glass bottles and putting them back together in a mosaic pattern to create gorgeous art work. Then the completed the work is covered with resin to keep the glass pieces in place.
Ending Notes on ArtSpace
It was delightful to meet Jo Ormesher and to hear about the gallery and upcoming programs.
The annual Herndon Model Train Show will be held again this year. Also, on the schedule is The Holiday Homes Tour sponsored by Arts Herndon.org.
Jo holds up a Holiday Homes Tour Poster.
A little known fact about the actual ArtSpace building is that it was once a tractor factory. Combining history and art makes for a great exhibit.
The ArtSpace is located at 750 Center Street, Herndon, VA.
A Special Thank you to Jo Ormesher for allowing me to take photographs and the blog about ArtSpace.
Also, Thank You to the Herndon Historical Society for Providing the Photographs on Display.
