Anyone for Tennis?

I’ve added a new category to my blog–“Sports” and I’m hoping to do a blog or two on the topic.

I was looking at this vintage tennis racquet in the basement in an old wooden press.  The press was used to keep the wooden racquet from warping.

Wooden tennis racquets went out fashion in the early 1980’s mainly because they were difficult to play with.

Technology has greatly improved tennis racquets.  Today’s racquets can have a headsize of midsize, midplus, oversize or super oversize.

The larger the headsize, the larger the sweet spot.  The sweet spot is area of the racket you want to hit your balls in.

I’m even not sure if it is spelled tennis racquet or racket.  Although I see the word racket used more frequently.  The International Tennis Federation uses the word racket exclusively.

As a teenager, I got together a “tennis” outfit of white shorts and a stripped top and went to the high school’s courts to hit the balls against a wall.

I even lived at a house with a private tennis court but, alas, never mastered the game.

It always seemed that I would chase the tennis balls around more than play the game.  The game was over when I was too red faced to continue.

Tennis is great exercise and a wonderful sport.  Perhaps I was just in love with the “idea” of playing the game.  The word tennis would bring up images of fun couples in crisp white outfits laughing the day away.

Some day I’ll take up tennis again, or maybe not?  Better yet, how about buying myself a diamond studded tennis bracelet?

Did You Know That . . .

“Tennis” bracelets originated back in 1978 at the US Open? A tennis player, Chris Evert, lost her diamond bracelet during a match and the officials  paused the game so she could find it.

If there are any passionate tennis players reading Farmhouse Magic Blog, we would love to hear from you.

Not sure if it is the best idea to give your school presentation on my garden hostas. You might want to rethink that one. Good luck on the project and stay healthy.
