I was out for a walk today in Reston and came across this wildflower meadow.

According to the posted information, a meadow is an ever evolving habitat.

This meadow supports many types of wildflowers and grasses.

A meadow is different from turf in your yard as it provides a good supply of food and cover for wildlife such as butterflies, rabbits, birds, turtles, and snakes.

Flowers in a Meadow

Meadows are helpful to slow water runoff, filter pollutions and reduce sediments in streams.

To prevent natural succession or the ground returning to forest land, this meadow is mowed in late winter or early spring.

In this photograph, I believe, the yellow flowers are Goldenrod and the the white flowers are Queen Anne’s Lace.
