Crocheted Blankets for Warmth and Beauty

Today’s blog is about hand crocheted blankets.  The sizes range from baby blankets to full size blankets.

All the items in today’s blog were handmade by my neighbor.

Her handmade blankets last forever and are very warm.  The stitches, patterns, and yarn weights, however, are different.

Depending on the size, each blanket takes about two months to complete.

The heavy blue blanket on this bed was a Christmas present.

It is a very warm blanket on cold nights.

I love this child-size dusty rose colored scarf made with a waffle crochet pattern.

If you look closely you will notice that the scarf has a button tab and a cute white kitten button.

She has also made a number of baby blankets which are soft and cuddly for that new baby.

Fun Facts

The word crochet comes from Old French and means “small hook”.

Crochet hooks in the past were made of ivory, bone, or porcupine quills.

Modern crochet hooks are made from bamboo, aluminum, plastic, glass, or wood.

Crochet is popular because it is easy to take along, you can do it in your spare time, and only one hook and yarn is needed.
