Years ago I received a special package from Slovakia.
The package should have been filled with egg shell art but, sadly, all the egg shell art was in pieces and the only survivor was this egg shell made into a girl’s face and head.
I was going to put this up as an Easter blog, but I think my Readers would enjoy the story any time of the year.
The girl’s head was made from a light brown chicken’s egg.
Her face and freckles have been carefully painted on. You can see pencil markings which were used as a guide.
She has a nice smile, brown hair peaking out from her hat and light blue eyes.
She wears a carefully sewn tam-like hat of white pink and black material.
She is also wearing a pink turtle neck sweater which comes up to her chin.
She reminds me a bit of Ukrainian Pysanky egg shell art where egg shells are carefully decorated using a traditional wax technique and then lacquered.
I think she survived the journey to my house from Slovakia because she was padded with her hat and neck clothing.
When I see her in my china cabinet, I love her happy smile.
E.P.,
