Although things are not final yet, I’m helping an individual in setting up housekeeping. I have lots of good experience with this topic along with upscale decorating ideas. OK, not really on that one, all my Readers know we like to do things on a shoestring. That is basically, keeping things simple, reusing, repurposing, and buying secondhand.
This person has little money to spend on things and wants practical things. Things they need to enjoy their new place. So, Farmhouse Magic Blog to the rescue!

First Things First
Really, we need to furnish a whole two-bedroom place. The first thing I did was look around my home for things I had two of, things I couldn’t use, or things I didn’t care for.
So far, I am off to a good start and found the following items in my home for the new place. In other words, free of charge, because at the same time I am decluttering my place. –
- Small used stick broom vacuum which is way too loud for me.
- Four new dish towels which I washed. They have blue in the print which I don’t care for but are good kitchen towels.
- Four Hand Towels for the bathroom. They are good quality but never matched any of my bathrooms so they are like new.
- An old lamp with a new white lampshade.
- New Cook’s Knife, with 6-inch blade. I purchased this from the grocery store on sale but never used it. I presently have too many knives in my kitchen.
- Extra toothpaste, toilet paper, dish soap, and laundry detergent.
- Inexpensive Work of the Art – Found it in a secondhand store. It will be perfect for this person. I hope they like it.
Outlet Shopping
Over the weekend, I took a shopping trip to our local outlet store. I had no real idea of what I wanted to purchase. However, I was looking for things really marked down and of good quality.
So, I found a good deal on large drinking glasses. I purchased eight Pottery Barn Cafe glasses for about $2.25 each because they had a big sale going on. Initially, I was only going to purchase six glasses but keep in mind people always break a glass or two. Then there goes the set. The new glasses have wide mouths on so they can get the ice from the front of the fridge/freezer icemaker without the ice hitting the floor.
Ending Notes on Setting Up Housekeeping
I find it exciting to help out with things.
My next step is to help with the moving out of the rental as soon as things are settled.
After that, with basically no furniture, we will go shopping in secondhand stores to see what we come up with.
Check back for more blogs on this new project.
Also, Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there!
