Patrick Pi Party

Patrick Pi Party

So, this was the first time I’ve heard of a Patrick Pi Party but let me be the first to blog about one. Of course, it is a combination of a St. Patrick’s Day and the International Pi Day parties combined. Really, the area I live in is full of those smart techies and they all want to celebrate International Pi Day on March 14th, (3.14 = Pi).

However, to make things a little more interesting, this is also a “to go” party that I’ve been asked to help with. Plus, we are not spending lots of money on it. Well, here we go our Patrick Pi Party on a dime.

Note, we are also having a live band or two for entertainment.

Shopping for the Party

Being a thrifty party shopper, the first place I stopped by is a secondhand store to two to see if I could find any inexpensive party decorations or serving platters.

OK, the St. Patrick’s Day decorations were all gone except for a few green vases. However, I did find some easy to carry items to take to the party. Yes, things need to be easily carried in lightweight containers if at all possible.

I was able to purchase a chip bowl, red lidded fruit bowl and clear plastic cookie tray for the party. I didn’t use the small plastic ware container with the off-white top. Perhaps I can find another use for that. These items were $1 each except for the small plastic ware container with lid, that was $2.

Menu for the Patrick Pi Party

I started shopping at one of the local organic grocery stores and to my delight, there were shopping carts full of great sales items. Oh boy, I need these things. Most of the items were two for two dollars so I snapped up a bunch of inexpensive party chips.

Let’s see two bags each of hot maple kettle style potato chips baked with avocado oil, chili glazed peanuts and aged white cheddar chips. I also purchased two large bags of Hint of Lime Organic Tortilla Dip Chips for $2.75 each.

Homemade Treats

Homemade Peanut butter and sugar cookies were placed in the large clear serving dish. In keeping with the tradition of green on St. Patrick’s Day, green sugar sprinkles were added to the top of the cookies prior to baking.

Previously, I ordered a mini croissant sandwich serving tray which came with two plastic tong servers. This was approximately $50 for 14 sandwiches. But they are attractively served and very tasty. I wanted to pick up a container of macaroni salad but oddly they were all sold out.

Another big money splurge is the new glass pie shaped dish to hold the deviled eggs purchased for about $9.00. It’s too hard to transport delicate deviled eggs on a plate. They would go sliding off the edge of the plate.

I cut up some cantaloupe and strawberries and put that in the red lidded container. Since the strawberries are not as sweet as I like them, I sprinkled them with a bit of orange sugar.

We need salsa and chip dip, so I purchased that, too. Whoops, I forgot the paper plates but did purchase napkins and plastic silverware.

A few party guests were going to bring pies and perhaps tacos to serve.

I added left over bottles of holiday party beverages and a pack of clear based soda. No, we don’t want guests to spill anything on those carpets in that rental that will stain them. Plus, by getting rid of the holiday party beverages, it frees up a lot of space in my storage area.

So, all that was sent off to our party host who, hopefully, got his parking spot out front to carry things in.

Ending Notes on the Patrick Pi Party

Well, now to wait to hear about the party and the live band. Hopefully, it was a smashing success.

I’ll keep my readers posted on things.

Note – I’m a little worried about this lack of paper plates. Of well, they can get creative and use the paper napkins in a pinch. I also forget to give the host some extra wood for the fire pit.

For all others, Happy Patrick Pi Days!!! (Wow, that is kind of a mouthful.)
