After several weeks of looking at a messy storage bin at the new condo, I decide it was time to do a quick Storge Bin Cleanup. Really, I also wanted to see what mysterious items were left behind by the previous owner. I, also, wanted to see if anything could be removed or disposed of. This would make more space for things we want to keep.
This storage bin was probably undisturbed for about six years with things covered in a thick coating of dust.
First of all, I noted several furnace filters of various sizes. Some were slightly dusty. So, I dusted them off and left them outside for others to take. We actually measured the area of our filter and found out it is much larger than what was left behind in our bin.
Vintage Italian Nativity Figurines
One of the first things I came across is a bag of holiday decorations. In the bag is a nativity set of Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, camels, three wise men, sheep, a shepherd, etc. However, it looks like two sets were merged together to make one large set. Some of the newer figurines are made out of hard composite resin material. While others, are made with blue plastic.
I believe, three of the blue plastic figurines are marked with “Made in Italy” date from about the 1970’s. I noticed a similar set being sold for $46 online.
There were also two different baby Jesus’ figurines.
Vintage Light Bulbs
Also in the bag are several boxes of vintage type holiday light bulbs still in the packaging. One of the packages is marked .99 cents. There were also a couple of old light strings.
Tinsel, Plastic Garlands, and Aluminum Sled
The last items in the bag are three tinsel ropes, a plastic poinsettias garland, and a newer type of aluminum sled.
I thought I would have trouble finding a good home for many of these items but that wasn’t the case.
Recycle and Reuse Conclusion
I’m thinking I can give away some of these items to friends. So, I took some photos, got online and asked if anyone wanted anything from this stash.
Yes, of course, two people asked for items. One gal pal asked for the old light bulbs and the nativity set. I remarked that there is not a manger but perhaps one could make one out of popsicle sticks. Obviously, children would like this type of craft project.
The other person asked for the vintage looking garland. I’m thinking they want the poinsettia garland but I’m going to have to recheck to be sure.
Things are quite dusty, so before I give them away, I’ll get a sink full of soapy water and wipe things down.
Whatever is left over, I’ll donate to the local resell charity shops. That way, none of this holiday decorations set will end up in the trash.
