OK, I had no intention of replacing an old vanity and doing a Bathroom Remodel project, but with a leaking sink, things had to be changed out.
So, after our water alert went off in the bathroom, we noticed there was a leak under our bathroom sink in the half bathroom. Yes, this photo shows the mess that was below the sink as we pulled everything out to fix the leak. In the end we turned off the water valve and decided to get some help on this project. It’s always a blessing when you know when to stop and get a professional plumber for the job.

BEFORE PHOTOGRAPH –This old bathroom vanity was installed many years ago. The faucet was slightly rusted. I repainted it to match another cabinet and added the chrome handles.
New Bathroom Remodel – What was Done?
The first item was to find a stand-alone bathroom vanity we both liked. We did this first to allow for shipping time. We selected a Kohler Seer 24-inch stand-alone vanity with a quartz countertop. It came with the bronze handles, and the legs had to be attached. The new vanity arrived shrink wrapped on a wooden palate. It was in perfect condition. Since this is a smaller bathroom vanity, it only had one hole drilled in the quartz countertop for the faucet.
Also, at that time we wanted to refresh the paint in the bathroom. It was many years since I painted it. The old paint was a greenish-yellow color. We went with a bright white called Polar Bear and a white baseboard trim. This bathroom has no window, so the bright white lightened things up a bit.
AFTER PHOTOGRAPH

To my eye, this new vanity is a quality piece, and it is heavy to move into place.
Conveniently, the top drawer of this Kohler vanity has a hole where the plumbing needs to go through. I’m storing some toilet paper rolls in this drawer. I had a plumbing service install this vanity and they asked if they had to cut a hole in this area. I guess they don’t like to do those types of jobs. The plumber needed a few extra parts which he had on his truck.

New Faucet
Really, I love this new Moen One Handle Laboratory Faucet made of chrome. It matches the one we put in the upstairs bathroom. Plus, it has a sleek modern look. The upstairs also has a larger Kohler stand-alone vanity. They match and yet they are not the same.
Decluttering the Bathroom
Because we didn’t want camera equipment in the basement, we stored the items on the floor in this bathroom. The filming equipment chest took up a lot of space. And so did the other items. So, after we painted, the camera equipment was not returned.
From my upstairs bedroom, I repurposed a small brown stool to serve as a small table to hold some extra towels. This Bobbin Turned Joynt Stool is in weathered Mahogany. It is a reproduction with the original from the Charles I era, circa 1630. It is well made and very heavy. I found it in a secondhand store and originally used it to hold some magazines.

I recently purchased the chocolate brown towels from a discount home store, but I am thinking of adding a few additional dark brown towels.
Note – The large mirror on the back wall came from Pottery Barn and was on sale due to a few small defects in the glass. The medicine cabinet over the sink somewhat matches the large mirror.
Soap Dish & Accessories
I’m having a bit of issue finding a small enough tray to add under the liquid soap and soap dish. Wow, I purchase one in a home good store, but it was too large, so I returned it for a refund.

Also, I repurposed this small aluminum tray from my coffee table to hold my liquid soap and soap dish. Really, the last thing I want messed up with soap is that nice new quartz countertop of the sink.
Lastly, I ordered a simple chrome standalone toilet paper holder. I didn’t want to drill any holes in this new vanity. Also, this toilet paper holder also matches the one we have upstairs.
Ending Notes on Bathroom Remodel Project
OK, it was well past the time to replace my vanity. The inside of the vanity had water damage from an earlier leak. The fresh paint job, also, made great deal of difference.
I love the new clean look of the downstairs bathroom. A few changes made things look updated and fresh.
I’m still working on the project as I want to add more chocolate brown towels. (Note, this color in towels is harder to find than you would like to think.) Yesterday, I picked up some plastic bumpers, so the aluminum tray does not scratch the surface of the sink. I need to add these to that plate but might change it out at some point. You know Farmhouse Magic Blog; we are always looking to make things better.
I hope you enjoyed today’s bathroom remodel blog.
