I’m getting Party Ready for a holiday event I am going to tomorrow at noonish. I’m to bring a dessert and an appetizer. OK, not hard to do. The rest of the meal is catered.
For the dessert, what could be better than making a plate of holiday cookies plus that’s easy for me. This week I baked up a batch of flourless peanut butter cookies. Before placing them in the oven, I sprinkled the tops of the cookies with green and red decorating sugar. I, actually, doubled the recipe so have some cookies for the holidays. I froze the cookies yesterday using an air tight plastic container. However, I always place sheets of wax paper between the layers, so the cookies don’t stick together.
Cookie Tray
So lets see what is on my cookie tray.
As mentioned previously I made and froze some peanut butter cookies. When I got up in the morning, I took these out of the freezer so they would defrost.
Then I got some chocolate disks and melted them in the microwave for about two minutes. I dipped regular Oreo cookies in the melted chocolate. I took the cookies out of the melted chocolate with a fork. This allowed some of the chocolate to drip back into the bowl. Immediately, I sprinkled the cookies with green and red holiday holly sprinkles. This needs to be done when the cookies are still wet.
To quick set the chocolate covered Oreos, place the tray into the refrigerator for about five minutes. When set, the chocolate on the cookies will no longer be shiny.
Lastly, I added a handful of holiday Hershey kisses in the center of the serving plate. These are peppermint flavored.
Goat Cheese Plate in Party Ready
I didn’t feel like baking or making anything elaborate for the appetizer, so I purchased a couple rolls of goat cheese. One was flavored with a slight amount of honey. I added onion flavored crackers to the plate. To decorate the plate tossed a handful of fresh cranberries on the plate along with some springs of fresh rosemary herb. I have a nice serving cutter I use. Lastly, I added a small, but tasty jar of fig jam.
The green of the Rosemary sprigs and red cranberries made everything look festive.
Ending Notes of Party Ready
It was a bit awkward bringing in two plates to the event. I carried one in a grocery shopping bag.
The event was lovely and very festive. I had a great time.
It is going to a nice holiday party that really makes one think about the holidays, the wishes for the new year, and every thing good in life.
Happy Holidays!
