This was my first visit to Winterfest in Reston, and I must say it was very enjoyable. I worried that the free shuttle buses might be difficult to get. However, the buses were always available, and we didn’t have to wait long. Plus, the drivers were helpful and answered all questions.
I never noticed this sign before on a shuttle bus but apparently there is a federal law that states, “These seats must be vacated for seniors and disabled persons.”
Check In Station
Reston’s Winterfest was free for Reston Association members but there was a fee for all others. Registration was required to enter at the check in area.
If you wanted a map of the event, there was one available. We were also given two free glow in the dark sticks which we attached to our clothing.
The first building we passed by, was historic Brown’s Chapel. Unfortunately, it was not open. However, I would have liked to see the inside once again. I spent a good deal of time there.

Artic Wildlife Playground
As we walked the trail of Winterfest, there were volunteers along the way if you got lost or if you had any questions. Everyone was nice and friendly.
They even had a Grinch Village, and a Santa Experience advertised as a first come, first serve event.
I really liked these mushrooms and snail lights.
Lots going on in this light show.
Enchanted Forest at Winterfest
I loved the Enchanted Forest and spent some time looking at all the trees. Apparently, you could vote for your favorite decorated tree. The trees were all sponsored by different individuals or businesses, so every tree was unique and indeed enchanting.
At one of the nearby fire pits, we toasted marshmallows and made a complimentary S’more.
Ending Notes of Winterfest
We enjoy our walk around Winterfest; the light show was fabulous.
However, I did not go into see the Grinch or Santa so I can’t tell you what that was like. Walking around gorgeous Lake Newport was thrilling. The homes lite around the lake reflected into the clear lake water.
All in all, well done and we enjoyed our visit to Winterfest in Reston.
Happy Enchanting Holidays Everyone!
