Today is Herndon Historical Society Holiday Model Train Show. This is their fifteenth annual show in downtown Herndon with free admission.
In the photograph below, speedy model trains circle a large track complete with a to scale background.
This model train zooms past woodland scenery.
Northern Virginia NTRAK Organization
A big thank you to the Northern Virginia NTRAK organization for setting up and operating this modular railroad exhibit. Also, thanks to Herndon ArtSpace for hosting the event. Their large train set-up delights viewers of all ages.
Modular Train Pieces at the Holiday Model Train Show
If you are wondering about NTRAK, it is a tax-exempt educational corporation of model train lovers. The group use international N-scale rail standard to build its modular pieces.
The NVNTRAK brochure states that all the modular pieces are made in a certain way. So the pieces connect much like an elaborate jigsaw puzzle.
By following this standard, train enthusiasts from all over the world can connect their modules and tracks together. The modular pieces are also adjustable to fit into any type/size exhibit hall or room.
The track scenery frequently changes giving visitors a chance to see a burning building with fire fighters, factories, or a Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur.
The scenery at this point is full of action with firemen and fire trucks putting out a fire.
No, it is not a real fire but it does look realistic.
Learning Experience
If you like model trains, new railroaders learn about building model railroad sets, electronics, history, layout operation, and photography.
This Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur is a fun addition to a corner piece.
Holiday Model Train Show Ending Notes
Viewing this train exhibit is a welcome distraction from all the hustle of the holiday season. As children wait for the trains to pass, their excitement is evident.
