Pre-Thanksgiving Day
Going back to Pre-Thanksgiving day, I first want to mention one of my kitchen secrets is to do as much as possible the day before.
For example, this Thanksgiving I made the stuffing and potatoes the day before. So then, on Thanksgiving Day, I only have to heat everything up prior to the meal.
Easy Turkey Stuffing Recipe
I use a boxed stuffing as a short cut but my whole family loves the taste.
For this recipe, I never stuff the turkey with the stuffing but make it in a pan or a casserole dish.
This photograph shows dicing of the celery stalks.
Ingredients for Easy Turkey Stuffing
- 1 Cup of Diced Organically Grown Celery
- 1/2 Cup of Diced White Onion
- 6 ounce Box of Seasoned Stuffing Mix, (I use Stovetop Stuffing for Turkey)
- 1 Tablespoon of Butter
Directions
- Over medium heat melt butter then add diced onion and celery. Sauté on stove until translucent approximately 6 to 8 minutes.
- Make the stuffing mix according to directions.
- Add the cooked onion and celery to stuffing mix.
- Cool then refrigerate until time to serve. Can be heated by the microwave oven or on the stove. Makes about six to eight generous servings.
I am using my favorite bamboo wooden spoon to sauté the onion and celery mixture.
Buttermilk Yellow Mashed Potatoes Recipe
This recipe gives a hint of buttermilk to the mashed potatoes. I don’t believe in adding too much butter, sour cream or other fattening ingredients.
Using yellow potatoes fools the eye into thinking there is a lot of butter in the mashed potatoes.
Be sure to cut the potatoes in to even chunks so they all get done at the same time.
Ingredients
- 5 Cups of Organic Yellow Potatoes Peeled and Cut into Chunks
- Pinch of Salt
- 3 Tablespoons of Butter
- 1/4 Cup of Organic 2% Fat Cultured Buttermilk
- 1/4 Cup of Skim Milk
- 2 Tablespoons of Light Sour Cream
Directions
- Place chunked potatoes into a pan with water add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook until a fork is easily passed through.
- Drain water and return potatoes to the stove to dry out any excess water.
- Add butter, buttermilk, skim milk and light sour cream.
- Mash until smooth.
Fixing Candles that will not Fit into a Candle Stick Holder, Pre-Thanksgiving Day Easy Fix
Nothing is more annoying than to sit down at the Thanksgiving table and the tall candles start to fall out of the candle stick holders.
The easy way to fix this is to fill a cup with very hot water. Find a sharp knife and place the blade into the hot water for a couple of minutes.
While the knife if still hot, carefully cut or carve off a little of the ends until they fit into the candle stick holders.
Slightly cut or carve the ends of the candle until they fix into the candle stick holders.
Pre-Thanksgiving Day Ending Thoughts
Now you are off to a great head start for your Thanksgiving Day meal. Make your side dishes the day before and then set your table with your best dishes, glasses, and silver. Don’t forget the candles!
Remember all your Pre-Thanksgiving Day work will make the actual turkey day much easier.
On Thanksgiving don’t forget to be thankful for all that is important in your life.
